A brother advising his sister who does not wear hijab

A brother's question about his adult sister who does not wear hijab, in which IslamQA answered that he bears no sin if he has given the advice he can. ¹

The questioner said his adult sister goes out with her face and hair uncovered, and that he has advised her many times, privately and in front of their father. ¹ Their father, who runs the household, does not want her to wear hijab, and the questioner said he has been mistreated by him for giving this advice. ¹ He asked whether he is sinning because of her, whether he should still sit and talk with her, and how he could make hijab dear to her. ¹

IslamQA answered that a brother does not bear sin merely because his adult sister goes uncovered, provided he has given the advice he is able to give. ¹ It held that he should call her to it with wisdom and gentleness, and attend to strengthening her faith and correcting her ideas. ¹ It advised him to keep up his ties with her rather than cutting them. ¹
