Concept
Integration and identity (al-indimaj wa-l-huwiyya)
Sheikh Omar Abdelkafy's view of how a believer integrates into a society that is not wholly Muslim while keeping his characteristics and identity, following the experience of the first Muslims, as set out in his example of the egg, the carrot and the coffee bean. The contemporary Islamic discourse — maturity versus reactivity
The 'Al-Wasatiyya' episode on the contemporary Islamic discourse. The International Islamic Fiqh Academy definition quoted by the host: 'the manner of expression conveying Islam's truths and laws across life's fields' — the debate concerns the conveyers, not the text. The audience split 51% reactive vs 49% mature; 67% saw the bigger problem in content vs 33% in form; 51% saw revision as an internal necessity vs 49% a response to outside pressure; and 76% endorsed two different discourses for inside and outside vs 24% for one.Patriotism, nationalism and Arabness — the boundary with Islam
The 'Al-Wasatiyya' episode on patriotism and nationalism versus Islam. The audience voted: 45% held a clear definition of the concepts; 78% saw Arab unity as a step toward Islamic unity; and 76% felt no contradiction between their belongings. The host concluded that belonging to homeland and Arabness does not contradict Islam provided it carries no fanaticism, discrimination or injustice — 'and this is the wasatiyya'.Aljamia (aljamiado: Spanish written in Arabic script, and its literature)
Aljamia is the Spanish form of the Arabic al-'ajamiyya ('non-Arabic'), a term the Muslims of al-Andalus used for the Romance dialects of their northern neighbours, dialects coloured with Arabisms introduced from the 9th century by Mozarab emigrants. In the later Middle Ages the word came to mean Spanish written in Arabic script, and the literature in that script is called aljamiado.
