• The prescription of the Ramadan fast

  c. 624 CE · 2 AHThe fast of the month of Ramadan was prescribed for the Muslims of Medina in the second year after the Hijra.

• al-Kudayd

  A watering place between Usfan and Amaj on the road between Medina and Mecca; there the Prophet broke his fast and the army broke theirs on the march of the Conquest in Ramadan 8 AH.

• Iftar

  The meal that breaks the fast at sunset in Ramadan, gathering family and neighbours and built on charity and solidarity; many open the fast with dates and tea, and dishes differ from country to country. UNESCO inscribed iftar on its intangible cultural heritage list in 2023, nominated by Azerbaijan, Iran, Türkiye and Uzbekistan.
