Banu Ya'la, kings of Tlemcen

The emirate of Banu Ya'la in Tlemcen, of the Al Khazar of the Maghrawa, descended from Ya'la ibn al-Khayr ibn Muhammad ibn Khazar. Their state ended with the Almoravid conquest of Tlemcen in 475 AH (1082 CE). ¹

The Banu Ya'la were neighbours of the Zirids in Fez, and of the Banu Yifran al-Yifrani in Sala and Tadla. Their emirs had wars and battles with the Zughba of the Arabs, and with the Banu Hammad, the Masmuda and Barghawata. ¹

Their last emir was al-Abbas ibn Bakhti, lord of Tlemcen. Yusuf ibn Tashfin sent Mazdali ibn Tiblakan to him with the armies of Lamtuna, and they subdued the central Maghrib and killed his son Ya'la. Al-Abbas was then killed in the conquest of Tlemcen in 475 AH, their state died out, and Tlemcen became a frontier town for the Almoravid king. ¹
