Overview

Tawwaj is a city in the land of Ardashir Khurra in Fars. Al-Baladhuri mentions that al-Hakam ibn Abi al-As conquered it, or it is said Uthman ibn Abi al-As (may God be pleased with him), in the year 19 AH. He built mosques in it, made it a home for the Muslims, and settled Abd al-Qays in it. It was a base for raids against Fars, and it was made a garrison city (misr) after the killing of Shahrak. 1
