Overview
A ruined city inhabited by Arab chiefs, of which only earth remains from its wall. Al-Idrisi describes it as having been among the wonders of construction. 2
In it there are tiers of arches standing in the air, and underground chambers (dawamis), to which water flows from a spring near Qayrawan. 2
Al-Salabi mentions that Hassan ibn al-Numan conquered it by force. Then the Muslims demolished as much of its walls as they could, so that no one could fortify himself in it, and they reconquered it after the killing of al-Kahina. 3
