Overview

Hassan ibn al-Numan, an Umayyad commander and administrator who took charge of the conquest of North Africa after Abu al-Muhajir. The book states that he brought the Byzantine presence to an end, destroyed Carthage, and built Tunis in its place. 1

It credits him with the victory over al-Kahina, leader of the Berbers, with renewing Kairouan and establishing its congregational mosque. He set up the registers and arranged the land tax and the poll tax. 2

The book gives no date for his governorship, and this needs an additional source. The same figure has another page: Hassan ibn al-Numan al-Ghassani.
