Overview

Lucena, also called Lusha the Smaller or Lusna, is one of the towns of the district of Cordoba. 1

The event linked with it

Al-Maqqari reports that the sultan Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Abi al-Hasan, lord of Granada, was taken prisoner near Lucena in Rabi al-Awwal 888 AH. His army was broken in the mountains of its districts. The lord of Lucena learned of it, and he fled with him by night and brought him to the lord of Castile. 1

The town lies within al-Andalus. The date here rests on one source, and it needs an additional one.

ابن رشد الحفيد

Abu al-Walid Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Rushd of Cordoba — Averroes to the Latins; he devoted himself to Aristotle, translated him into Arabic and wrote some fifty works including Fasl al-maqal, Tahafut al-tahafut against al-Ghazali, Bidayat al-mujtahid and the Kulliyyat on medicine; the Almohad caliph al-Mansur honoured him, then exiled him to Marrakesh and had some of his books burned, then relented — he died there in 1198 and his body was carried to Cordoba.
