Overview
Crete is an island. Al-Baladhuri reports that Junada raided it; then part of it was opened in the time of al-Walid and then closed. Humayd ibn Mu'yuf raided it in the caliphate of al-Rashid and opened part of it. Abu Hafs Umar ibn Isa al-Andalusi al-Iqritishi completed its conquest in the caliphate of al-Ma'mun, until no Romans were left in it, and he laid waste to their fortresses. 1
