Overview
Abu Hafs al-Iqritishi, that is Umar ibn Isa al-Andalusi. He raided Crete (Kiriti) in the caliphate of al-Ma'mun. 1
The conquest of Crete
He took one fortress and settled in it, then went on conquering one thing after another until no one of the Byzantines was left on the island, and he ruined their fortresses. This is what al-Baladhuri relates, and it is connected with the conquest of Crete. 1
