Overview

Yazid ibn Mazyad commanded the vanguard of Ma'n ibn Za'ida to al-Rakhkh. When the Kharijites killed Ma'n at Bust, he killed them, and not one of them escaped 1.

Sijistan

He then took charge of Sijistan, and his grip grew harsh on both the Arabs and the non-Arabs of its people. Some Arabs cunningly obtained, in his name, a letter to al-Mansur, and he was dismissed, imprisoned, and all his property was sold. He was then spoken for, and was brought to the City of Peace, where the Kharijites met him on the bridge and fought him. He then went to Yusuf al-Barm in Khurasan, and remained in good standing 1.

Ma'n ibn Za'ida al-Shaybani

Ma'n ibn Za'ida al-Shaybani; al-Mansur's governor of Sijistan — angered by Rutbil's doubled gift-tribute he took Zabulistan with near thirty thousand captives, and in Faraj al-Rukhkhaji's telling put the sword to them over wild-ass dust mistaken for an army; winter drove him to Bust where Kharijites hidden among his builders killed him under the cupping-horn — Yazid ibn Mazyad slew them all.
