Summary

Wahb ibn Abd Manaf ibn Zuhra ibn Kilab, chief of Banu Zuhra in lineage and honour, and father of Amina, the mother of the Prophet. He was therefore the Prophet's maternal grandfather 1 2.

In The Sealed Nectar

The book mentions him in one place: when Abd al-Muttalib chose for his son Abdullah Amina bint Wahb ibn Abd Manaf ibn Zuhra ibn Kilab. At that time she was counted the most noble woman of Quraysh in lineage and standing, and her father was the chief of Banu Zuhra in lineage and honour 1 2. Zuhra ibn Kilab was the brother of Qusayy ibn Kilab, so the Prophet's lineage on his mother's side and his father's side meets at Kilab ibn Murra 3.

What is not mentioned here

The book does not record his birth or death, or his religion, nor the name of Amina's mother. What al-Baladhuri reports about her is recorded on Amina's card.

For young visitors

Wahb was the Prophet's grandfather through his mother Amina. He was the head of his family, Banu Zuhra, among Quraysh.
