    Caliphate and works

Saliou became fifth caliph of the Mourides in 1990, on the death of his brother Serigne Abdou Khadr Mbacké, and held the caliphate until his death. Agriculture and religious education were his main occupations: he opened daaras across the country where students receive a religious education and work in the fields, ran an agricultural project of 45,000 hectares at Khelcom, continued the internal and external renovation of the Grand Mosque of Touba, carried forward the al-Azhar Islamic university begun by his elder brother Abdoul Ahad, and had a hospital installed at Touba and its electricity and rainwater networks improved.12

Both articles describe him by office and descent: the English article's short description calls him a 'Senegalese sufi leader' and its text names him fifth caliph and the founder's last surviving son, the French article names him fifth khalife and son of Ahmadou Bamba, and Wikidata's religion value is Islam only; no source states his own initiation or affiliation.213

    Death

Saliou Mbacké died at Touba on 28 December 2007 and was buried there the next day; a three-day mourning period was declared in Senegal. The French article's own infobox gives 27 December, an internal slip against its text, the English article and Wikidata. He was succeeded by his nephew Serigne Mouhamadou Lamine Bara Mbacké, a grandson of Bamba.213
