Overview
Richard Yeomans is a British independent scholar and painter, formerly Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Education, University of Warwick, where he was Coordinator for Art and Design. 1 He is the author of [[work/art-and-architecture-of-islamic-cairo|The Art and Architecture of Islamic Cairo]], published in 2006. 2
His link with Egypt
In the preface to his book he recalls first visiting Egypt in 1964 with friends to see the monuments of Luxor and Aswan; pictures of the Citadel and Sultan Hasan's mosque then drew him to explore medieval Cairo, and the Khan al-Khalili quarter was his first encounter with Islamic architecture. 3 He says he spent many years drawing and painting the Pharaonic and Islamic monuments of Egypt before writing the book, which rests substantially on personal observation. 4 The jacket note says he is a painter who has exhibited in solo and mixed exhibitions in London, the Midlands and abroad, and that Egypt's Islamic architecture has been the subject of his painting for many years. 1
