Summary

Al-Qadi al-A'azz Abu'l-Fath Nasr Allah ibn 'Abd Allah al-Azhari al-Iskandari was an able governor and accomplished poet who kept company with al-Salafi and profited by it. He entered Yemen and praised the emir of Aden, who rewarded him lavishly; then all he had was lost at sea and he returned to him naked, reciting his ode beginning "We set out, and Generosity had called: make haste — so to Aden, for your prize there; and the return is fairer" — and the emir treated him well again. His entry is in the obituaries of 567. 1
