Overview
Najm al-Din Ayyub ibn Shadhi, father of Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub, and brother of Asad al-Din Shirkuh. He was the son of Shadhi ibn Marwan. 2
Origins
Ibn Khallikan reports that historians agree that his father and family were from Dawin, a town at the far edge of the province of Azerbaijan on the side of Arran and the lands of the Kurj. They were Kurds of the Rawadiyya, a branch of the Hadhbaniyya. Ayyub was born there. 2
Migration
His father Shadhi set out with his two sons, Asad al-Din Shirkuh and Najm al-Din Ayyub, to Baghdad. They then settled in Tikrit, where Shadhi died. 2
