Summary

Abu Ayyub Mutarrif ibn Mazin al-Kinani — said to be al-Qaysi by clientage — the San'ani, qadi of San'a', transmitted from Ma'mar and Ibn Jurayj; al-Shafi'i and the people of Iraq transmitted from him. 1

The dispute over him

Opinion differed on him: Yahya ibn Ma'in transmitted from him the verdict "liar"; al-Nasa'i said "not reliable"; Abu Hatim Muhammad ibn Hibban al-Busti said: the qadi of Yemen, who transmits from Ma'mar and Ibn Jurayj and from whom al-Shafi'i and the Iraqis transmitted — he used to relate what he had not heard; and Hajib ibn Sulayman said: he was qadi of San'a' and was a righteous man. 1
