Place in the story

    Unknown (unknown)

    Roles are dated and sourced; the museum describes the act and attributes the judgement.

    Mogadishu, Buffalo and public service abroad

    Mohamed was born in Mogadishu, of the Marehan clan; his parents were activists of the Somali Youth League, and his father worked as a civil servant in the national Department of Transportation.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en} When the civil war began in 1991 he claimed asylum in Canada and later in the United States, earning bachelor's and master's degrees at the University at Buffalo and working for the New York State Department of Transportation.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en}

    Prime minister, and a popular resignation

    In October 2010 President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed appointed him prime minister; he took office on 1 November 2010 and won a wide following for anti-corruption and salary reforms.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en} Under the Kampala Accord between the president and the parliament speaker he was asked to step aside, and he resigned on 19 June 2011 — a departure that drew public protests in Mogadishu.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en} He founded the Tayo party in 2012.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en}

    President

    On 8 February 2017 the Federal Parliament elected Mohamed president, defeating the incumbent Hassan Sheikh Mohamud; he took office on 16 February 2017.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en} His administration's final phase was consumed by an electoral dispute: in April 2021 the lower house voted to extend his term by two years, the move provoked armed clashes in Mogadishu and was reversed, and elections were repeatedly delayed.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en} On 15 May 2022 Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won the presidency again, and Mohamed handed over power on 23 May 2022 — each man having succeeded the other once.{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en}

    A note on the record

    On faith, everything the sources offer is structure: Wikidata carries Islam on his item, and the English, Arabic and Urdu articles file him under Sunni Muslims — one structured family, which is not an attestation.{cite:source/wikidata-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed}{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-en}{cite:source/wikipedia-mohamed-abdullahi-mohamed-ar} No text in any language names a school for him, so his faith is entered as unknown, with the Sunni reading preserved in the record.
