Summary
The dirham of 387 AH
This is the first silver coin in Khwarazm bearing the name Ma'mun. The obverse has the profession of God's oneness followed by "Ma'mun ibn Muhammad", with an inner margin saying this dirham was struck at Jurjaniyya in the year 387 and an outer margin with a verse of al-Rum. 1 The reverse reads "To God; Muhammad is the Messenger of God ﷺ; al-Ta'i li-llah; Nuh ibn Mansur", naming the Samanid amir Nuh ibn Mansur and the caliph al-Ta'i, although, as the author notes, al-Ta'i had by then been deposed; its margin carries al-Tawba 9:33. 1 The only known specimen weighs 3.57 g. 1
