Summary

Abu Usama Janada ibn Muhammad, the Azdi philologist of Marw; abundantly careful in preserving and transmitting the language, versed in its rare and its used alike — in his time none was his like in his art; there was companionship between him and the hafiz 'Abd al-Ghani ibn Sa'id al-Misri and Abu'l-Hasan 'Ali ibn Salwan the muqri' and grammarian of Antioch — they would gather at the dar al-'ilm and hold discussions and debates on adab. 1
