Overview
Ja'far ibn Yahya al-Barmaki, son of Yahya ibn Khalid al-Barmaki, and one of the Barmakids. 1
His fall
Al-Tabari says that his ruin and the ruin of the Barmakids came from al-Rashid's forbearance toward him and toward his sister Abbasa daughter of al-Mahdi. 2
Al-Mas'udi relates that al-Amin, when he came out of the Ka'ba, swore to him, and that this was the cause of the grudge of Umm Ja'far against him. 3 He also relates a report of a thousand dinars that his servant carried to give to al-Asma'i if he made him laugh, and a report of a pledge that Ja'far made alone. 4
His birth and death dates are not recorded here and need an additional source.
