Mawla Idris ibn Husam al-Din, of Persian and then Ottoman origin, a Hanafi. Al-Shaqa'iq says that he was employed in the office of the Persian amirs. Sultan Bayezid honoured him greatly, assigned him a monthly salary and support, and he lived under the sultan's protection in contentment 1.
Historian of the House of Osman
The sultan ordered him to write a history of the House of Osman in Persian, and he wrote it. He had no equal and no peer, so that he made the ancient writers forgotten, and none of the later writers reached his level of composition. He wrote poems in Arabic and Persian beyond counting, and wonderful treatises on various questions. In short, he was one of the rarities of his age and the unique figure of his time. He died around the year 925 1.
