Overview
Ibrahim Pasha, son of Muhammad Ali Pasha, governor of Egypt, a military commander and ruler. He led his father's armies in the Morea and then in Syria. 2
The Morea
The armies of Egypt moved under his command, with his adviser Sulayman Pasha al-Faransawi, by sea from Alexandria in 1239 AH (1824 CE) toward Crete and the Morea peninsula, to put down the revolt there. He took Navarino in 1240 AH and entered Athens in 1241 AH, despite the help that Lord Cochrane gave the Greeks. 2
Syria
He led his father's armies to occupy Syria. He defeated the Ottoman army and completed the control of the land. 2
Al-Salabi says that he lifted the restrictions imposed on Christians and Jews in the lands under his control, under the claim of equality and freedom, and opened the door to French and American missionary missions. This is al-Salabi's assessment. The matter ended with the London Convention of 1840 CE, which limited the Egyptian presence in Syria to the lifetime of Muhammad Ali. 2
