Summary

Abu'l-Faraj al-'Ala' b. 'Ali b. Muhammad b. 'Ali b. Ahmad b. 'Ubaydallah al-Wasiti, known as Ibn al-Sawwadi the katib-poet; an excellent, witty, dissolute poet of natural gift from a great house of his town, noted for writing, brilliance and ease — 'Imad al-Din al-Katib in the Kharida says he recited to me of himself...; and Ibn Khallikan admired a line of his and wove it into a dubayt. 1
