Summary
Abu'l-Hasan Ibn al-Ni'ma 'Ali b. 'Abdallah b. Khalaf al-Ansari al-Andalusi, then of Valencia — one of the great signs; he transmitted from Abu 'Ali Ibn Sukkara and his tier and led Valencia in iqra', fiqh, hadith and grammar — a scholar, memoriser of fiqh, the tafsirs and the meanings of traditions, foremost in the science of the tongue, eloquent, articulate, scrupulous, revered, gentle — headship of fatwa and iqra' ended with him. 2
