Summary

Muhammad b. 'Ali, known as Ibn al-Mu'allim al-Wasiti al-Rathi, styled Najm al-Din; the famous poet — tender of verse, delicate of beauties, deft of nature, his poetry almost melting for softness. Long-lived in the crafting of qasidas, his age seconded his utterance; he wrote most in love-poetry, panegyric and the arts of purpose, easy of wording and true of meaning, the notes of longing, love and passion prevailing — so hearts clung. 1

Among the Rifa'is

Whenever he composed an ode the faqirs attached to Shaykh Ahmad b. al-Rifa'i memorised it and sang it in their sama' sessions. 1
