Overview
Abu 'Abdallah Ibn al-Bahlul, an excellent reader among the celebrated readers of Baghdad; Abu'l-Husayn b. Buwayh took him together with Abu'l-Husayn Ibn al-Raffa' for the tarawih, the two alternating the lead, and people grew eager for tarawih because of them. 1
The power of his recitation
Ahmad b. 'Ali al-Muhamili related from Abu'l-Husayn Ahmad b. 'Ali b. al-Muhtadi that Ibn al-Bahlul recited one day in Dar al-Qattan at the mosque, after prayer on Friday, the sura of al-Hadid; a man of 'Ukbara rose and said, "how did you recite, Abu 'Abdallah?" — he recited it back to him, and the man said "Yes, by God!" — and fell dead. 1
