    Summary

Hussein ibn Abd al-Aziz Al-Sheikh (born 1384 AH / 1964 CE) is a Saudi scholar and judge who serves as imam and khatib of the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. A descendant of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, he was the ninth preacher of Arafat in the Saudi era. 12

    Education and judgeship

He grew up seeking knowledge from a young age. After intermediate and secondary school he joined the College of Sharia in Riyadh and graduated with excellence, then took a master's degree at the Higher Institute of Judiciary, also with excellence, and a doctorate there on the legal maxims of litigation, awarded with first-class honours. He studied under Fahd al-Humayd, Abdullah al-Jibreen, Abd al-Aziz al-Dawud and Abdullah al-Ghudayyan, and attended the lessons of Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz. 12

He was appointed a judicial attaché in 1406 AH and a judge in 1411 AH at the Grand Court of Najran; in 1412 AH he moved to the Grand Court of Riyadh, and on 25 Sha'ban 1418 AH to the Grand Court of Medina. 1

    Imamate of the Prophet's Mosque

A royal decree then appointed him imam and khatib of the Prophet's Mosque, a post he still holds; he first led the Tarawih prayer there in 1418 AH (1997 CE), and his supplication at the completion of the Qur'an in the mosque became a fixture of its Ramadan nights. Alongside the imamate he gave lessons in fiqh, tawhid and hadith and lectures in Riyadh's Grand Mosque and elsewhere, and he has unpublished research in judicial and criminal questions and on the rulings of the greeting and of Ashura. 123
