Overview
Hisham al-Mu'ayyad bi-Allah, Umayyad caliph in al-Andalus, who took up the rule after his father al-Hakam when he was nine years old. 2
His accession and his guardianship
Al-Maqqari reports that he was given the title al-Mu'ayyad after al-Mughira, his uncle and the designated heir, was killed. The matter was taken up by the chamberlain Muhammad ibn Abi Amir, in agreement with Ja'far ibn Uthman al-Mushafi and Ghalib, a client of al-Hakam. 2
Then Ibn Abi Amir put him under guardianship and seized the state. Nothing of the forms of the caliphate remained to him except the prayer for him from the pulpits and his name on the coinage and the embroidered bands. 2
