Overview

Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Ali ibn Sultan al-Yafrini, a jurist, grammarian and man of letters, who objected to Ibn Habish. He was born in 641 AH and excelled in Arabic; in the East he was called "the mountain of grammar". 2

His views

Al-Maqqari relates that he considered himself a mujtahid. He did not permit marriage with women of the People of the Book, which is the view of Ahmad ibn Hanbal and not that of Malik. He held that divorce is only twice. Al-Maqqari attributes this view to disagreeing with the consensus. 2

He also had a particular view on the grammatical parsing of some verses. He died in 700 AH, a conventional year that the data give as derived. 2
