Overview

Al-Malik al-Mughith 'Umar b. al-Malik al-'Adil Sayf al-Din Abi Bakr b. Ayyub; small when residing in the citadel, he went down to his cousin al-Malik al-Mu'azzam Turanshah when he reached al-Mansura — Karak, Shawbak and those parts were granted him, and he is now their king. 1

His seizure

He remained their lord until 661, when al-Malik al-Zahir Rukn al-Din Baybars encamped in the Ghawr, wrote him, offered him much for surrendering the town and swore to him — so he came down to him at his lodging at al-Tur from the Ghawr, and Baybars seized him the moment he arrived, despatched him to Egypt's Citadel of the Mount and imprisoned him there. 1

The fall of al-Mughith, lord of Karak

Baybars rode to Syria and by stratagem brought down al-Mughith, lord of Karak — the last of him, for he had corresponded with Hulagu promising him Egypt and asking twenty thousand horse; when his letters were found in Egypt and read to the scholars, they ruled that one who did this might not be left alive.
