Rise to the sultanate
He defeated al-Nasir Faraj and killed him. The caliph al-Musta'in entrusted him with managing the kingdom and gave him the title "Order of the Kingdom". 1 Then he asked the caliph to entrust the sultanate to him, and the caliph made a condition that he come down from the citadel, to which he did not agree. He prevailed over the sultanate, deposed al-Musta'in in Sha'ban 815 AH, and gave the allegiance to Dawud al-Mu'tadid. 1
The judges of Syria ruled that it was not lawful to depose the caliph, and Nawruz fought him. 1
