Overview

Al-Kharrit ibn Rashid al-Naji of the Kharijites, of the Banu Naji. Ibn al-Athir relates that he separated from Ali after al-Nahrawan, and said to Ziyad ibn Khasafa that he had not been pleased with their companion as imam, nor with their conduct, so he chose to withdraw and join those who call for consultation. He then fought Ziyad fiercely and went to al-Ahwaz, where the Naji and the local peasants gathered to him and wished to break the tax, so Ali sent Ma'qil ibn Qays against him with two thousand men. 1
