Overview

Al-Harith ibn Murra al-Abdi. 1

The Indian frontier

He volunteered for the Indian frontier with Ali's permission. He was victorious, took spoils and captives, and divided a thousand heads in one day. He was then killed with his companions in the land of al-Qayqan in 42 AH. 2

Al-Mas'udi's account

According to al-Mas'udi, Ali sent him to the Kharijites of al-Nahrawan to call them back, and they killed him. They sent word to Ali that if he repented of his office and testified against himself as an unbeliever, they would give him their allegiance, and if not, they would withdraw from him. 1

The two reports differ on the place and cause of his death, and reconciling them needs an additional source. The page of "Futuh al-Buldan" is not recorded in the data.
