Overview
Al-Aziz billah, Nizar ibn al-Mu'izz li-Din Allah, the fifth of the Ubaydid rulers in al-Suyuti's count. He took power after his father in 365 AH, and was succeeded by his son Mansur, who was titled al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah. 2
Taking power
Ibn al-Athir says he concealed his father's death in 365 AH until the Eid of Victory. He then led the people in prayer, preached, prayed for himself and received condolences for his father. When he was established in power the army gathered to him after they had resented him, though he had been managing affairs since his father fell ill. He sent Yusuf Bulukkin out to govern Ifriqiya. 3
Expansion and correspondence
His envoy reached Baghdad in 369 AH, and he asked Adud al-Dawla to have al-Ta'i add "Taj al-Milla" to his titles. Al-Suyuti, citing al-Dhahabi, says that Homs, Hama and Aleppo were opened to him in addition to his forebears' lands, and the khutba was given for him in Mosul and Yemen, and his name was struck on the coins and banners. 2
