Summary

Abu Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Yusuf al-Taghlibi of Baghdad was one of the great reciters of his time. 1 He studied with Abu Ubayd al-Qasim ibn Sallam and with Musa ibn Hizam al-Tirmidhi (d. 251 AH). 1 Ibn al-Jazari lists him in Ghayat al-Nihaya without a death date, as does Abd al-Ghani Abd al-Khaliq in al-Tabari al-Faqih, according to Ahmad Khalid Babakr. 1

With al-Tabari

When al-Tabari moved from Kufa to Baghdad he met a number of scholars there, among them Ahmad ibn Yusuf al-Taghlibi, from whom he learned the readings. 1

Notes for researchers

  • The thesis's footnote gives Abu Ubayd's death as read by the OCR as "214 AH", most likely a misreading; it is not carried over.

Ibn Abi Dawud al-Sijistani

Abu Bakr Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath al-Sijistani, son of the author of the Sunan, whom al-Dhahabi's Mizan al-I'tidal calls the trustworthy hafiz and author of works, one of the great hafizes and leading figures. Al-Dhahabi lists what was said against him — his father's word about him and Ibrahim al-Isbahani's charge of lying, al-Daraqutni's 'trustworthy, but often in error when speaking on hadith', Ibn Adi's 'accepted by the hadith scholars' — and his quarrels with Ibn Sa'id and Ibn Jarir, and includes him in order to defend him. Ibn al-Nadim lists his Kitab al-Masahif, a Tafsir and other books; he died in 316 AH.
