Overview

Abu Jafar ibn Shirzad, secretary to Tuzun, who ruled Baghdad at the end of Tuzun's time. 1

In Baghdad

Tuzun sent him from Wasit to Baghdad, where he ruled and gave orders and prohibitions. He guaranteed the thief Hamdi against robbery in Baghdad for twenty-five thousand dinars a month. Hamdi would raid people's houses with torches and candles. 1

After Tuzun's death

Tuzun died in the days of al-Mustakfi, and Ibn Shirzad hoped for the kingdom and swore the troops to himself. The caliph gave him a robe of honour, then Ibn Buyah entered Baghdad and he went into hiding. 1

Ibn al-Athir says that he hid with al-Mustakfi when Baghdad was in turmoil with the approach of Muizz al-Dawla, and that his rule lasted three months and twenty days. He then reappeared, and Muizz al-Dawla gave him the kharaj and the collection of revenues. 2
