Abu Ali ibn Marwan al-Kurdi

أبو علي بن مروان الكردي

Abu Ali ibn Marwan ibn Dushk, nephew of Bad al-Kurdi; surviving the battle that killed his uncle he slipped into the Kayfa stronghold claiming his uncle had sent him, seized it and married his uncle's wife, then mastered Diyar Bakr and twice defeated Nasir al-Dawla's sons, taking Mayyafariqin from its shaykh Abu al-Asghar whom he flung from the wall in 380 AH; he married Sa'd al-Dawla ibn Hamdan's daughter, was killed by guile, and his brother Abu Mansur succeeded.

Ibn Khaldun relates that he escaped from a battle in which his uncle was killed, and reached the fortress of Kifa and took it. Then he possessed what had belonged to his uncle in Diyar Bakr, and took Mayyafariqin in 380 AH. He was then killed by a stratagem, and his brother Abu Mansur succeeded him. 2

Bad al-Kurdi, named Husayn ibn Dushk, kunyas Abu Abd Allah or Abu Shuja'; founder of Marwanid rule in Diyar Bakr — he seized Mosul and Diyar Bakr, disputing them with the Daylamites, then coveted Mosul itself, marched on it, and was defeated and killed in battle by the two sons of Nasir al-Dawla, his sister's son Abu Ali ibn Marwan succeeding him.
