Overview

Abbad ibn al-Husayn al-Habti told Hamran ibn Aban what al-Hajjaj had said: that if a man claimed Arab descent but did not say that his father was a free man and that he was a client of Uthman, al-Hajjaj would have his neck struck. Hamran then gave him the western bank of the river that became Abadan, and he was the first to keep a garrison there. 1

Before that he had served as police chief under Abd al-Rahman ibn Samura in the conquest of Kabul, and he spent a night fighting the polytheists until morning. al-Hasan al-Basri used to say that he did not think one man could stand in for a thousand until he saw Abbad ibn al-Husayn. 1
