Summary

Malik transmits from Rabia ibn Abi Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Said al-Khudri (may God be pleased with him), that he came back from a journey; his family brought him meat; he said: check whether this is from the meat of the sacrifices; they said: it is from it. Abu Said said: did the Messenger of God ﷺ not forbid it? They said: there was an order after you from the Messenger of God; Abu Said went out to ask, and was told that the Messenger of God said: I forbade you the meat of the sacrifices after three days; eat, give in charity and store; I forbade you the drink of nabidh, so drink; every intoxicant is forbidden; I forbade you visiting graves, so visit them, and do not say evil. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said Rabia did not hear from Abu Said, and that the person Abu Said asked was Qatada ibn al-Numan, his maternal half-brother. 1

The Prophet's address to the Ansar at al-Ji'rana

When the Ansar received nothing of the lavish Hunayn grants and grumbled that 'the Prophet has rejoined his own people', Sa'd ibn Ubada conveyed their hurt and gathered them in an enclosure; the Prophet reminded them they had been astray and God guided them, destitute and God enriched them, enemies and God reconciled their hearts — then asked whether they were not content that people return with sheep and camels while they return to their homes with the Messenger of God; the Ansar wept until their beards were wet and declared themselves content with the Messenger of God as their share.
