Summary

Malik transmits from Yahya ibn Said, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, that he heard him say: a woman came to Abdullah ibn Abbas (may God be pleased with him) and said: I vowed to slaughter my son; Ibn Abbas said: do not slaughter your son, and make expiation for your oath. An old man beside Ibn Abbas said: how is there expiation in this? Ibn Abbas cited the verse about zihar in Surah al-Mujadila, and then assigned the expiation you have seen. The editor notes that Ikrima transmitted Ibn Abbas's hadith in al-Bukhari, and that Ibn Abd al-Barr mentioned a report from Aisha about vows that was not in Yahya's copy. 1
