Chain of transmission
- Malik ibn Anas
- Yazid ibn Ziyad
- Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi
Summary
Malik transmits from Yazid ibn Ziyad, from Muhammad ibn Kab al-Qurazi, that Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan said from the pulpit: people, there is no withholding what God gives, and no giving what He withholds, and wealth does not benefit its owner against God. Whoever God wants good for, He gives understanding of the religion. Then he said: I heard these words from the Messenger of God ﷺ on these planks. The editor notes that Yazid ibn Ziyad, Malik's teacher in this hadith, narrated little; Malik narrated nothing from him except this hadith; al-Bukhari, al-Uqayli and Ibn Adi preferred that its chain is broken, while Ibn Abd al-Barr counted it connected. 1
