Summary

Yahya transmits from Malik, from Ishaq ibn Abdallah ibn Abi Talha, from Anas ibn Malik (may God be pleased with him), that he said: I used to serve Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah (may God be pleased with him), Abu Talha al-Ansari (may God be pleased with him) and Ubayy ibn Kab a drink of fadikh and dates. A man came and said: wine has been forbidden. Abu Talha said: Anas, get up and break these jars. I broke them at the bottom of the basin. The editor's place note: Ibn al-Nadim reports that Ubayy's codex had one hundred and sixteen suras, and gives his count of the Qur'an's verses as six thousand two hundred and ten. 1 2
