Summary
Malik said: the agreed practice among us regarding a slave owned by two men: if one of them contracts his share, whether his partner permits it or not, does not happen, unless both contract him together, because that would fix manumission for him. When he pays what he contracted for, half of him is freed, and the one who contracted part of him is not obliged to complete his manumission, because of the hadith: whoever frees his share in a slave. 1
