Chain of transmission
Summary
Yahya transmits from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, that he said: it reached me that the Messenger said to a man of Thaqif, who embraced Islam while he had ten wives, when he embraced Islam: keep four of them and separate from the rest. The editor notes that Ibn Abd al-Barr said the report is transmitted by a group of Muwatta narrators and most of Ibn Shihab's companions; that al-Bukhari said of Mamar's version that it is not preserved; that the sound report is a mursal; and that Ibn Abd al-Barr considered the reports on this point defective. 1
