Summary
Yahya transmits from Malik, from Ibn Shihab, that Sahl ibn Saad al-Saidi told him that Uwaymir al-Ajlani (may God be pleased with him) came to Asim ibn Adi al-Ansari and asked him: what do you say about a man who finds another man with his wife? Will he kill him, and will you kill him? Or what does he do? Ask the Messenger about this for me. Asim asked the Messenger, who disliked such questions and found fault with them, so that what Asim heard weighed heavily on him. When Asim went home, Uwaymir came and asked him, and Asim said he had brought him no good, since the Messenger had disliked the question. Uwaymir went to the Messenger in the middle of the people and asked him. The Messenger said: it has been revealed concerning you and your wife, so go and bring her. They performed the mutual curse while Sahl was among the people with the Messenger. When they finished, Uwaymir said: I have lied about her, Messenger of God, if I keep her, and he divorced her three times before the Messenger told him to. Ibn Shihab said that became the custom for those who perform the mutual curse. 1
