Overview

Masufa is a branch of the veiled Sanhaja. Ibn Khaldun says that their homelands were the distant sands east of the lands of the Sudan, as far as Tadmakka and beyond. 1

In Ibn Khaldun

He describes them as people of ease and kings of the desert in the time of the Almoravids and after them, and says that among them were the Masufi cavalry squadrons in the later kingdoms of the Maghrib. 1
