Overview
Banu Thabit, the chiefs of the city of Tripoli and its districts, who were Arabs. Ibn Khaldun says that the Hilali Arabs took the districts of Ifriqiya and overcame the Zanata in Tripoli, so its leadership passed to Banu Thabit. They continued in leadership of the city and its outskirts, under the authority of whichever Maghribi dynasties ruled, the Almohads and the Hafsids, until the time of Ibn Khaldun. 1
