Banu Muzni, amirs of Biskra

Banu Muzni, emirs of Biskra and the lands of al-Zab. ¹

They are of Banu Jarra ibn Alwan of al-Athbaj, according to what Ibn Khaldun received from the genealogists of the Hilali tribes. ¹

They settled the villages of al-Zab, among those who were there before them from the Zanata and the forerunners of the conquest, and shared with its people both the sweet and the bitter. Their elders took their places among those who held the consultative council that governed the land. ¹

Among their emirs was Musa ibn Muhammad ibn Mas'ud al-Balat, emir of the Bedouins, who pledged allegiance to Abu Ishaq the Hafsid when he rose against his brother al-Mustansir. Their affairs continued through the strife of the Banu Abd al-Wad and the Banu Marin until the time of Ibn Khaldun. ¹
