Overview
Al-Suyuti relates that in 885 AH an army left Egypt under the chief chamberlain Yashbak toward Iraq, and met the army of Ya'qub Shah ibn Hasan near Edessa, and the Egyptians were defeated. 1
The outcome
Some of the Egyptians were killed, the rest were taken captive, and the chief chamberlain was taken captive and his neck was struck in the second half of Ramadan. 1
Al-Suyuti's remark
Al-Suyuti notes that there was great enmity between the chief chamberlain and the Hanafi judge Shams al-Din al-Amshati, and that the killing of the chief chamberlain on the bank of the Euphrates and the death of al-Amshati in Egypt occurred on one day. He considers that a wonder. 1
What is not covered here: the causes of the expedition and the numbers of the two armies. This needs an additional source.
